From the Akels of yesterday to the New Dawn Café of today…
There’s a New Day Dawning in the heart of Jacksonville's financial district…
On January 2, 2019 Dawn Elmore, owner of Elmore Enterprise and CEO of New Dawn Outreach (NDO), in a “leap of faith,” purchased Akel’s Delicatessen (315 W. Forsyth Street, Jacksonville FL), a local family owned favorite, in order to create a “for profit” support base for New Dawn Outreach.
The deli retained the cooks and sandwich artists along with many of the menu items the public has grown to love over the years.
At the same time, they began rebranding Akel’s as the “New Dawn Café.” This change integrates the relationship between the café and New Dawn Outreach.
NDO is a Jacksonville based 501(c)(3) who, as their main objective, focus on the homeless challenge within the Jacksonville metro area and beyond. Their primary emphasis is on the “Street Friends” living in the downtown area. NDO focuses on connecting them with needed resources such as medical attention, housing, support groups, rehabilitation centers, employment, etc., while reconnecting them with family members and friends… reaching those committed, and providing a hand up as they successfully transition back into their community as productive members of society.
All proceeds from New Dawn Café are reinvested into the Jacksonville – First Coast area, focusing on downtown Jacksonville and its “Street Friends.”
